This is a sample of photos taken at a Sussex Wildlife Trust Reserve on 14 June 2009. The four kestrel chicks are too young to fly and are waiting (with varying degrees of patience) for the adult to appear. There are two feeding sequences. On the first occasion the kestrel chicks took the food inside the nest box. On the second occasion the larger of the chicks kept the prey (a bank vole) to itself. There is a video sequence taken at the same time on YouTube. All the photos were taken from a safe distance away, using the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM IS lens, handheld on an EOS 40D. A number of shots are quite heavily cropped. |
